I would pick these two authors as the most influential writers of the 20th century. Anybody care to comment on this?
They both have have added so many new words, phrases, and concepts to the English language: ego, id, superego, repression, sublimation, transference, penis envy, oedipus complex, thought police, big brother, doubleplusgood, oligarchical collectivism, sex crime, thought crime, anti sex league, ministry of truth, ministry of love, ministry of peace, etc.

Re: FREUD and ORWELL
Tue, October 4, 2005 - 12:54 AMI have to agree with you. I think that Orwell's 1984 will ultimitely have a more profound impact though because it is coming to pass as we speak. I've also noticed that it is no longer required reading in High School Literature Classes anymore either. Guess they wouldn't want people to make too many comparisons before the Government gets full control of the people, or we might just wake up from this "Government Induced" Nightmare and try to do something about it.
